Credit and Marriage
Scott,  I was 36 when I married. I have excellent credit. However, the man I married went through a messy divorce and his credit is moderate at best. If I apply for credit, such as a new car, am I obligated to list my husband's debts or can I still obtain credit in my own name?
--Vicky

Debt Collection
Dear Dollar Stretcher,
I had an outstanding judgment against me for $1,000 to pay off an apartment lease that was broken when my ex-husband and I divorced. The total amount owed prior to the judgment was $1,700. The third-party collector who's been calling me insists that I pay that amount. The court said I owe $1,000 which has been paid in full. What can I tell the collector to make him go away?

Single Parent Homeowner
I am in the process of a divorce and want to keep the family home. Are there any programs out there for single parents that would offer a more favorable interest rate for re-financing?

Unwanted Names on a Mortgage
I am currently divorced and took possession of our home of which I am in the beginning stages of foreclosure. Even though his name has been removed from the deed, it still remains on the mortgage. Could I file bankruptcy with his name on the loan? If not , what other alternatives do I have to save my home for my children and myself?

Divorce and credit
I am in the process of divorce and there are several credit cards and creditors that will need to be paid, but I have been advised by my attorney to make only the minimum payment between now and the trial for the divorce. Many of these are also overdue and so collection agencies, etc. call me to try and collect. How can I approach these creditors and let them know that the debt will be repaid eventually, but that circumstances prevent me from paying the debt in full at this time?
