Budgeting for Retirement |
| The portion of Americans who say they have tried to calculate how much money they need to save for a comfort-able retirement fell from 51 percent in 2000 to 46 percent in 2001. The percentage of workers who say they have tried to do a retirement needs calculation decreases to 39 percent when survey eespondents are probed more specifically about different aspects of their retirement planning process (e.g., how much of their preretirement income they will need in retirement, how much they expect to receive in Social Security benefits, how much they expect to receive from pension or other defined benefit plan, etc.). (Sixty-five percent of respondents who answered these same questions say they have saved for retirement, versus the 71 percent who did not.) |
